Which Clubs Are Eager To Sign Ian Maatsen?

They have identified him as one of the key summer targets amid the desire to improve the left-back position ahead of their much-anticipated outing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The journalist states that Borussia Dortmund are still interested in bringing Maatsen back after a pretty good loan spell in the second half of last season. He played a part in helping them get to the UEFA Champions League final, where they lost to Real Madrid.

Romano further reveals that Chelsea have had discussions over the potential transfer of Maatsen with the Villans during their talks to sign their Colombian forward Jhon Duran. The journalist adds that “negotiations continue” to resolve Maatsen’s future ahead of the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

How Much Are Chelsea Hoping To Get For Maatsen?

It has already been reported that the Blues had inserted a £35 million buy clause into the Englishman’s loan deal when he moved to Dortmund for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign. As a result, they are likely to demand at least that figure or perhaps something even bigger after realizing that multiple clubs are interested in signing the 22-year-old.

Maatsen, who was called up as Frenkie de Jong’s replacement in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad, is currently with his national team in Germany. The reason why Villa are seemingly so eager to sign him was because of what they saw from the full-back last season when he made 23 appearances for the Bundesliga club and contributed to five goals (three goals, two assists).

Unai Emery’s side are looking for more competition in their left-back spot and someone to get the best out of Lucas Digne as they start competing in multiple major competitions next season.
