Borussia Dortmund fans have been handed some shock news as manager Edin Terzic has left the club, two weeks after battling against Real Madrid in the Champions League Final.
Dortmund And Edin Terzic Part Ways
Terzic’s Tenure And The Tale Behind His Departure
The story of Terzic’s departure comes from The Telegraph, who write that the German-Croatian boss asked for his deal at the Westfalenstadion to be cut short on June 13, despite having one year left on his contract. His best achievements at Dortmund’s helm include taking Bayern Munich all the way in the Bundesliga in 2022/23, missing out on the title on goal difference, and of course, defying the odds in 2023/24 and reaching the Champions League Final, defeating PSV Eindhoven, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain en route to the Wembley showpiece against Real, where despite dominating Los Blancos in the first half, couldn’t keep up the intensity, eventually losing 2-0.
Now, after two seasons of entertaining football and improving players such as Karim Adeyemi, Julian Brandt and also reviving Jadon Sancho, Dortmund will be on the lookout – for a new manager to take them to the next level.

The nature of Terzic’s exit though, is worthy of a film plot. The Telegraph states that tensions reached an unhealthy point before Dortmund’s match against Real at the start of June, with defender Mats Hummels allegedly criticising Terzic’s tactics at the time, the German player’s words to Bild said to have instigated the pair’s falling out, which was believed to have turned “violent”.
“I was furious because I was of the opinion that Borussia Dortmund shouldn’t play like that – against any opponent in the world,” said the 35-year old centre-back.
“I didn’t think it could go on like this. I felt insulted to stand on the pitch in that kit. So submissive, so inferior in footballing terms. The two Stuttgart games and the away game in Leverkusen. That was barricading with 11 men in the box.” Dortmund lost both Stuttgart matches and drew to Leverkusen.

It’s a sour end to a relationship that promised so much, especially considering how integral Hummels was during his side’s run in Europe, producing some stalwart performances alongside Nico Schlotterbeck at the back for Dortmund and scoring the crucial goal against PSG that booked Dortmund’s ticket to the final.
What Next For Dortmund?
Dortmund will be hoping they can find “the one” as their next coach who they hope will replicate, or perhaps better Terzic’s efforts during his reign that it’s safe to say has ended in a way nobody would have imagined.
A Terzic-shaped hole will remain in Dortmund fans’ hearts after building a one-of-a-kind relationship with the 41-year-old over the past two years.
