‘Release Clause or No Plans to Negotiate’: Arsenal and Manchester United Learn Transfer Price for Midfield ‘Prodigy’

It is no secret that Arsenal and Manchester United are actively looking at options in the midfield to replace some of their aging stars. Both Thomas Partey and Casemiro have been rumoured to leave the English giants in the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, one of their transfer targets, Joao Neves, will be an expensive acquisition.

After last year’s transfer saga involving Declan Rice, Benfica youngster Joao Neves is high on the wishlist of numerous clubs in the English first division. In addition to the Gunners and the Red Devils, Manchester City are also keen on signing the 19-year-old.

The midfield “prodigy” has had a standout season in Portugal, winning the league’s Midfielder of the Month award four times last year. Neves has also earned a spot in his nation’s squad for the UEFA European Championship, starting later this month.

He is known for his technical ability, close ball control, and passing ability and would be a brilliant addition to the midfield of any of the English heavyweights chasing him.

Benfica Hope to Keep Him

As per Romano, the Portuguese club are not keen on parting ways with their prized asset. They have reportedly placed a massive £102 million release clause on him and are unwilling to negotiate for any fee lower than that.

Although scouts of various clubs have been scouting the teenager, a deal in excess of £100 million is sure to make them think twice thanks to restrictions due to Financial Fair Play.

With other options being considered by both the North Londoners and the Mancunians, it remains to be seen if a move for the Portugues starlet materializes this summer.
