Emile Smith Rowe Becomes a Major Transfer Target for London Club

Three Things Arsenal Can Do Next Season to Tackle the Left-Back Conundrum

Midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has been attracting interest from a host of clubs amidst an uncertain future at Arsenal and Fulham have now started showing concrete interest in him.

Fulham Decide to Move for Smith Rowe

A Feeble Fulham Attack

According to The Telegraph, the Cottagers are planning to strengthen their attacking department and have decided Smith Rowe is the right man for the job. Fulham players Willian and Bobby De Cordova-Reid might not continue at the club next season.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea player Willian is expected to be looking for a move to Saudi Arabia. And Cordova-Reid has come to the end of his contractual term. If both players leave the team will require attacking reinforcements.

Moreover, they scored just 55 league goals in 2023/24 and ended up with a goal difference of -6. As per FBref, they accumulated an xG of  50.8 with only six teams having a worse xG.

Will Arsenal Sell Smith Rowe?

The Gunners are planning to hold talks with Smith Rowe‘s camp in the coming days. The English midfielder will prioritise playing time and Fulham can guarantee him that. Whereas at Arsenal, he will face competition from the likes of Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira, and Declan Rice for a place in the midfield. But the departures of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny could possibly see him get enough minutes at his current club.

Any amount of money they receive from a possible transfer would be considered as 100% profit from an accounting perspective since the 23-year-old is a product of the Hale End Academy. This would go a long way in helping the side comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules(PSR). In case of a sale, the midfielder/attacker can be expected to fetch around at least £25 million.

Smith Rowe’s injury issues are also a major concern. The Gunners might be forced into a sale if he can’t prove his fitness during the pre-season.

Thus, there are multiple factors at play here and Arsenal fans will have to wait for some time before they can learn the homegrown talent’s fate.
