Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has admitted it was a massive relief to have found his name in the 33-man provisional England squad announced last week for the Euro 2024 in Germany.

Dropped to the Bench at Arsenal
No one expected Aaron Ramsdale to be dropped to the bench at the start of this season. He had a phenomenal 2022/23 season for Arsenal. With the help of his terrific performances Arsenal launched a title charge that no one saw coming.
But Mikel Arteta decided he needed an upgrade on Ramsdale to win the league and bought David Raya from Brentford. Raya has provided a sense of calmness to the Arsenal backline and has been excellent with the ball at his feet.
Ramsdale’s nervousness has often let his team down and has consigned him to a place on the bench. Remember when he fumbled with the ball at his feet and conceded an equaliser in the league against Brentford?
Focus Shifts to Euro 2024
Aaron Ramsdale reflected on his season with Arsenal and discussed his target for the Euros. He said: “A difficult season for me but seeing your name [in the England squad] is a massive relief.
“You have got yourself two weeks to really nail your spot down in the actual squad. It will be all guns blazing for all of us for the next two weeks and I am really focussing on getting in the team.”
Will Ramsdale Make it to the Final England squad?
England manager Gareth Southgate will soon axe seven players from the provisional squad and announce the 26-man final squad for the Euro 2024.
In the past, Gareth Southgate had suggested he might pick Ramsdale despite the limited playing time. He said: “It’s not ideal that Aaron’s not playing…I think if we’ve got three goalkeepers and one isn’t regular, it’s not perfect, but at this moment in time we are prepared to take that chance.”
Southgate also admired Ramsdale’s mental resilience while speaking about his response to the error against Brentford. It is clear that Southgate values Ramsdale’s experience and talent. With Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone injured and the young James Trafford likely to be dropped from the final squad, Ramsdale is expected to fly to Germany for the Euros.
