Jacob Ramsey is eager to play for Aston Villa in the Champions League next season despite interest from three Premier League clubs. The academy graduate is stepping up his recovery from a foot injury ahead of the pre-season.

Aston Villa Prefer To Keep Injured Star Despite Potential PSR Boost

A Homegrown Star

Ramsey started his football journey in Villa’s academy when he was six years old. After coming up the club’s academy ranks, the midfielder went on a short loan spell at Doncaster before making his senior debut for the Lions in February 2019.

Ramsey enjoyed a brilliant 2022/23 season, establishing himself as a starter in Villa’s midfield. He made 35 league appearances for the club, directly contributing to 13 goals. However, injury setbacks prevented him from building on his brilliant form last term, limiting him to only eight starts in the Premier League.

Despite interest from elite English sides, the 22-year-old is reportedly motivated to come back from injury and continue his progress under Unai Emery.

“No Desire” To Leave

According to The Telegraph, Ramsey is not planning to leave Villa this summer as he prepares to come back from a foot injury that has kept him out of action since early April.

Selling Ramsey would provide Villa with a massive boost in terms of their compliance with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as it would count as 100 per cent profit. However, the club are expected to avoid selling their “terrific” midfielder unless they are unable to raise funds for their main summer targets from other sources.

Telegraph journalist Matt Law has named Liverpool, Newcastle, and Tottenham as Ramsey’s main suitors. However, he believes they are not willing to meet Villa’s valuation of the player.

What’s Next for Villa?

Ramsey has continued his recovery process in recent weeks, eyeing a pre-season comeback. Emery’s side will start their United States tour with a match against Columbus Crew on July 27.

Villa will then take on RB Leipzig and Club America before meeting Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund in Germany on August 10.
