How Arsenal have Lined up Recently
Arteta has primarily lined up this season with a 4-3-3, which has been successful for them on a large scale. David Raya is the preferred goalkeeper over Aaron Ramsdale. Raya has started 26 matches in the Premier League this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process. He also started nine out of ten of Arsenal’s Champions League matches. He is also leading the Premier League Golden Glove award.
This has been helped by a steady defence, which has been the strong point for Arteta’s side. Takehiro Tomiyasu started at left back against Bayern Munich in the second leg, yet Zinchenko has started the past three league matches. Jakub Kiwior has been the regular starter at left back, and started the first leg against Bayern, but was subbed off at halftime.
William Saliba and Gabriel are the constant centre-back duo. The last time Saliba failed to play a full 90 minutes in the league was in the final group stage match in the Champions League away to PSV Eindhoven. The last time Gabriel failed to play a full match came back in August in the third match week of the season at home to Fulham. Ben White has been the constant at right back and won the Player of the Month for March.

The midfield has consisted primarily of Declan Rice, Jorginho and captain Martin Ødegaard. Ødegaard was the only midfielder to start against Luton Town earlier in the month, in which he scored the opener. Jorginho was replaced in the least league game by Havertz, who slotted into Ødegaard’s position forcing him to play more central.
The front three have changed as of recently. Saka consistently started at right wing. He has scored twice in his last four matches. Jesus started the last league game as a striker. However, Havertz has primarily started as a striker, as he did in both legs against Bayern. Martinelli returned to start at left wing coming back from his foot injury, replacing Trossard who started against Villa.
Recent Form
Arsenal had an incredible unbeaten league run since the start of the year. However, former manager Unai Emery was able to break the streak on the weekend against Aston Villa, swinging the title into Manchester City’s favour. In their last five league games, The Gunners have picked up a total of ten out of a possible fifteen points. This is the second best with only Manchester City boasting a greater record as of recently.

Arsenal were able to defeat Sheffield United 6-0 and Brentford 2-1 before gaining a vital goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium at the end of March. This match ended Arsenal’s eight-match win streak within the league, however, the point maintained their position at the top of the league.
In their following league match, Arsenal beat Luton Town 2-0 at home. They then went on to beat Brighton 3-0 away at the Amex Stadium, with goals coming from Saka, Havartz and Leandro Trossard who came off of the bench to score against his former club.
However, after their 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter Finals, The Gunners then fell to a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. After City’s win against Luton, meant they were replaced at the top of the league. Fortunately for Arteta’s side, Liverpool lost 1-0 to Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace at Anfield, being the first team to win at Anfield since Jesse Marsch’s Leeds last season.
Yet, Arsenal will be looking to turn their fortunes around after being eliminated from the Champions League after losing 1-0 away to Bayern at the Allianz Arena.
Injury News
Arsenal are currently without any injuries with Jurrien Timber gradually returning from his ACL injury. He picked up his ACL at the start of the season. Timber would be a significant addition to the Arsenal squad when he is fully fit, with Arteta stating “he plays in both positions right and left full-back in relation to the game and the players we have available.”
However, Mikel stated that Timber would not be featuring in the match, stating “It is too soon. He’s going to play a game with the under-21s and after that, we will see better where he is, and how he felt. He looks really good in training but it’s that last step now. We need to have the certainty that he’s ready to go.”
