Manchester United are eager to book a place in the FA Cup final in what has been a disappointing 2023/24 season, as they need to defeat Coventry City to do so. Ahead of that, there has been a promising update on the long-term future of midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United Pushing For New Kobbie Mainoo Contract
When Does Mainoo’s Current Deal Expire?
Fabrizio Romano has reported that he has ‘confirmation’ of talks taking place between the representatives of the England midfielder and the club’s executives over a new contract. He also adds that “Ineos are really pushing” to tie down the 18-year-old to a major long-term contract and ward off potential interest from other parties.

The interesting thing is that Mainoo is already currently on a long-term deal, which is poised to expire in 2027. United even have the option to trigger an automatic extension clause to stretch the contract until 2028. That is why Romano claims that the Red Devils don’t consider this to be urgent business and the club isn’t worried about him leaving them anytime soon.
However, the journalist also adds that United want to reward Mainoo with a higher salary to reflect his place in the first team. He also adds that there are plans for several add-on clauses to be inserted into his deal, something that can assure him a major salary if able to continue his rapid progress at the same rate at which he’s grown this season.
How Mainoo Has Turned Into Key Player At Old Trafford
After not being able to feature much for the first few months of the campaign, Mainoo has taken English football by storm in the second half of the 2023/24 season. He has made 24 appearances for the Red Devils so far in this campaign, scoring three exquisite goals which included a late winner in the 4-3 win over Wolves and another in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool. The Englishman showcases incredible flair and calmness with the ball, being able to beat the opposition press with ease and move the ball along smoothly.

The 18-year-old’s impressive efforts have seen him earn a place in the England national team even without having played for their under-21 side. In fact, Gareth Southgate hailed him for his “fabulous” performances at club level and Mainoo’s impressive performances for England in the March international friendlies could earn him a place in their Euro 2024 squad. For now, however, the young midfielder is keen on winning his first FA Cup title with the Red Devils and help them to a strong start in what has been a frustrating campaign.
