Chelsea Women Predicted Lineup vs Aston Villa for April 17

Sam Kerr Ends Exit Rumors with Chelsea Contract Extension Until 2026

Coming off of two crushing cup defeats this is a Chelsea Women predicted lineup for their key WSL clash with Aston Villa. The Blues are winless in three, something that hasn’t happened in years and they’ve surrendered top spot due to having a game in hand. The pressure is on and the current league champions will be desperate to get a win ahead of their huge Champions League tie with Barcelona.

Whether as a defensive midfield pairing or a central midfield duo, Erin Cuthbert and Melanie Leupolz are the first choice duo. We have seen Erin Cuthbert drop in to make a three, as has Fran Kirby. Guro Reiten and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd alternate as attacking wingers on the wings or as more traditional wide midfielders.

Lauren James has played as a ten or in a free role in a front two which can see her drop deep to collect the ball while Mayra Ramirez plays up front either alone or as part of a duo.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Emma Hayes has moved between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-4-2 in recent weeks. The 4-4-2 tends to come out against better teams as it allows them to press out of possession better while the 4-2-3-1 comes out more often against weaker teams. With no wins from their last three things look to be capitulating for Hayes and her side.

After a long stretch of clean sheets they have now failed to keep one in their last three outings, this has coupled with their firepower petering out to a degree with Arsenal keeping them goalless and both Ajax and Manchester United holding them to just one.

Chelsea Women Injuries to Consider

During her press conference, the manager confirmed that she will be without defensive trio of Millie Bright, Maren Mjelde, and Nathalie Björn leaving her with just two fit, senior centre-backs. In addition, Sam Kerr, Mia Fishel, and Aniek Nouwen are all sidelined long-term.
