A New Deal?

Bayern Munich were on the verge of tying Davies to a new contract in the final weeks of the 2022/23 campaign. However, the negotiations were postponed after sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was sacked before the summer transfer window.

Changes in the club’s hierarchy, including the departure of former CEO Oliver Kahn, kept the talks on hold throughout the summer. Meanwhile, Davies was approached by Real Madrid, who reportedly have a personal agreement in place to sign him in the next transfer window.

The 23-year-old has edged closer to a move to Santiago Bernabeu in recent weeks. But Bayern have now made a final push to keep him in Munich.

Key Updates From Max Eberl

Sporting director Max Eberl offered an update on contract talks with Davies. In an interview with Bild, he said (via iMiaSanMia): “I can say that we made Alphonso a very concrete, appreciative offer. At some point in life, you have to say yes or no.”

Asked about the previous negotiations with Davies, Eberl added: “The talks have been going on for a long time but were a bit broken last summer. We are working on this topic.”

According to Sky Germany, the Bavarians haven’t increased their wage offer for Davies in the recent negotiations. The German giants are reportedly willing to pay £9.4-£11.1 million per year, while the player’s representatives have asked for around £17 million.

Bayern’s Summer Plans Hang in Balance

Eberl’s appointment in early March indicated the club’s desire to start contract negotiations with several key players before the end of the campaign. The former RB Leipzig director completed talks with Mathys Tel, who signed a new deal until 2029.

However, he still has a lot of difficult decisions to make before the summer transfer window. In addition to Davies, contract talks with Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich are expected to start in the coming weeks.

Bayern bosses have repeatedly insisted on keeping Musiala as one of their most crucial players. However, they are reportedly “prepared” to sell Kimmich upon receiving a suitable offer.
