It has been reported that Edwards will not be returning as a sporting director, which he operated in his previous stint. He will have a more senior role (director of football operations) with more power.

Romano adds that an agreement between Liverpool and the executive is “imminent” and that the final details of a contract have been discussed already, with the club now being confident of getting this deal over the line. The journalist also adds that Richard Hughes, the former Bournemouth technical director, is ready to move to Anfield to join up under Edwards in the post-Jurgen Klopp era. He is likely to take the role of sporting director, working alongside Edwards in the new set-up.

Liverpool should benefit from the arrival of these two experienced individuals who will be highly involved in their recruitment of players.
