Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel

How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

The team returned to its usual 4-2-3-1 formation after the defeat in Leverkusen. Last time out against Lazio, they lined up as follows: Manuel Neuer in goal, Raphael Guerreiro and Noussair Mazraoui as fullbacks. Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano played in the centre-back roles. Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich started as the holding midfielders of the team. Finally, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller Jamal Musiala, and Harry Kane made up the front four, as they had done consistently since Kingsley Coman’s injury.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

The most worrisome thing about Bayern now, aside from the two consecutive defeats in pivotal games, is the fact that they were unable to score in either match. Bayern usually find the net in almost every game each season, regardless of the opponent. Even this term, when they have been struggling defensively, their attacking prowess has saved them often. Last season, after the sale of Robert Lewandowski and before the arrival of Kane, they lacked a world-class goal scorer, which was visible in the big games, but they still kept scoring in most of their other matches.

Now that they have the English national team captain in their side, not finding the net twice in a row as a team is highly unusual. When asked about this in the pre-match press conference, coach Thomas Tuchel praised his number nine and described him as “low maintenance” while pointing out that it was simply a matter of his teammates putting him in good enough positions.

But of course, scoring like defending is a team objective, not an individual one. The side overall hasn’t been good enough lately.

Tactically, the 4-2-3-1 formation has proven to be a better fit for the team than any other.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

The situation regarding injuries has been just as dismal as the team’s recent form on the pitch. January signing Sacha Boey has been sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Kingsley Coman, Bouna Sarr, Konrad Laimer, Serge Gnabry, Daniel Peretz, and Alphonso Davies remain out.
