Paris Saint-Germain secured a crucial first-leg victory over Real Sociedad in their Champions League round of 16 matchup. Kylian Mbappe was on the scoresheet for the Ligue outfit against the Basque club. A return leg in Spain will take place in March. If it goes poorly, the match could be the French forward’s last UCL fixture with the Parisians.

Kylian Mbappe Communicates Decision to PSG
Journalist David Ornstein tweeted early Thursday evening: “Kylian Mbappe has communicated the decision to leave PSG this summer.” The star player – with over 200 career goals, has been linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid for several years. However, a move across the border is not a foregone conclusion.

Ornstein noted that terms are “yet to be fully agreed” between Mbappe and PSG. One thing is for sure, though, that the French club will save a massive amount of money when the 25-year-old departs. In total, the Parisians will save £171 million each year. Those newly freed funds are expected to be placed in youth development.

Ornstein also stated in another article: “An official announcement is expected once the situation is finalised in the next few months.” Mbappe will become the last player of an era in PSG history where the club aimed to spend big to win the Champions League. Lionel Messi, Neymar and Marco Veratti were among the stars brought in, but the French outfit failed to secure the European title.
Real Madrid the Likely Destination for Mbappe
Real Madrid are still the expected destination for Mbappe. Rated as a £154 million forward by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old has appeared in two World Cup finals and topped the scoring charts in Ligue 1 for five consecutive campaigns. PSG will rue the missed chances they had with one of the best players in the world.
