Brentford Host Liverpool at the Gtech: Predictions and Best Odds

Brentford Current Run of Form

Brentford have been having their toughest Premier League season since their promotion in 2021. The Bees have only won two of their last eleven games in all competitions leaving them in a precarious league position. Currently placed 14th in the table, no one really questions their Premier League security however they are closer to the relegation zone in terms of points than they are to 11th-placed Wolves.

The positive news for them is that those two wins have both come since January 20, giving them six points out of a possible twelve, whilst their two defeats in that time have come to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, sides of which there is no shame in losing to.

Their slight upturn in form has coincided with the return of Ivan Toney. The striker made his comeback from suspension following a breach of FA betting rules in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest and has scored three goals in his four appearances. Scoring hasn’t really been an issue for the Bees anyway, even with top scorer Bryan Mbeumo out since early December. The last time they failed to find the net was against Sheffield United on December 9 whilst their last blank at home was against Arsenal on November 25.

Liverpool Current Run of Form

Liverpool returned to winning ways against Burnley last time out in a 3-1 win after they had suffered their first league defeat since September the week prior against Arsenal.

The Reds have generally been in good form and, aside from the aforementioned defeat, have been prolific in front of goal, scoring at least twice in seven of their nine outings in 2024. They’ve racked up some big scorelines as well, netting four against Newcastle, Bournemouth and Chelsea and five against Norwich City. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been leaky defensively though, keeping just two clean sheets in that time.

Brentford will be aware of Liverpool’s away record not being as strong as their home one. The Reds have dropped points in 50% of their games away from Anfield so far this campaign but have generally been good against similarly placed sides to Brentford, beating Wolves, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace on the road. Their only dropped points to a bottom-half side away from home so far has been Luton Town, where they required a late Luis Diaz equaliser to take a point.

Recent Head-to-Head

The most recent meeting between the two sides was back at Anfield in November where the home team ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. The currently in-form Diogo Jota scored whilst Mohamed Salah netted twice. It was a performance that prompted opposition manager Thomas Frank to heap praise on Salah after the game.

All the meetings of recent times have come since Brentford’s promotion in 2021 and the story has been a mixed one. Whilst the Bees have yet to get so much as a goal, let alone a point, in their three visits to Anfield, Liverpool are yet to find a win in their two trips to the Gtech. Their first clash saw a thrilling 3-3 draw play out whilst last year, Frank’s squad humbled Klopp’s men with a 3-1 win.

Brentford vs Liverpool Prediction

Brentford will take a lot of confidence going into this game based on their previous results against Liverpool at home but the proposition is certainly different this time. Despite having numerous injury problems, the Reds are a far greater side than the one that was so comfortably beaten in London last term. Brentford only lost twice at home throughout the whole of the 2022/23 campaign but have already lost five on their own turf this year.

This is Liverpool’s fifth 12:30 kick-off this season and it was once a huge issue for the Reds as they traditionally struggled in this time slot however, they are unbeaten in their other four early kick-offs this term, winning three and drawing one.

Both teams are in good scoring form with plenty of goals in their recent respective games for and against. The early kick-off might impact that somewhat but expect the visitors to just edge this one.

Prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1.
