The footballing transfer window could throw another surprise in the last hours before the deadline. According to reliable journalist Dan Kilpatrick, Tottenham Hotspur still have no clarity on whether their transfer target, Lucas Bergvall has chosen to join them or FC Barcelona.

Barcelona Confident to Land the Player Ahead of Spurs

The Catalan giants looked favourites to sign the Swedish teenager before deadline day. However, Tottenham can potentially spoil the party by hijacking the deal as Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday. Bergvall visited the Spurs training ground a few days ago and is now present in the city of Barcelona where meetings were held between the player’s camp and Barcelona’s officials.

As per the Italian journalist, the La Liga giants are the favourites to land the player and they were optimistic to wrap up the signing.

The journalist did reveal though, that the Spurs’ officials were constantly making phone calls to Bergvall’s representatives to hijack the move. However, Barcelona were confident to receive the green light from the 17-year-old on deadline day. Kilpatrick’s latest report suggests that the situation is not as straightforward as that and the Premier League side still have a chance to sign the player.

The player has met representatives from both parties and is yet to give his final verdict on where he is going. Tottenham will be hoping that Bergvall will follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Dejan Kulusevski and move to London.

Who is Lucas Bergvall?

So why exactly are two of the biggest clubs in Europe so desperate to sign a 17-year-old? Bergvall is regarded as a “generational talent” by many and is supposedly the next big thing to come out of Swedish football. The teenager plays as a midfielder and possesses immense natural talent.

The midfield prodigy is a great manipulator of the ball making him very dangerous in one-on-one situations. He uses his passing abilities as well as the ability to carry the ball to link his team’s midfield to the final third. He could be a big player for either Tottenham or Barcelona in the future, depending on which club he chooses to move to.
