Nottingham Forest travel to Championship side Bristol City on January 26 in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Forest will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Brentford by advancing to the last 16 of this competition. Bristol City will be a stern test as they beat West Ham after a replay in the previous round and have only lost one out of their last five home matches in all competitions.

How Nottingham Forest Have Lined-up Recently
Since the turn of the year, the Tricky Trees have played two FA Cup games and only one Premier League match. Odysseas Vlachodimos has played both cup matches, but has been unconvincing in terms of his shot stopping. Matt Turner, who played against Brentford on Saturday, has also flattered to deceive.
The fullback position has seen plenty of chopping and changing in 2024. Harry Toffolo started the home game against Blackpool at left-back, however in the replay and Brentford game, Nuno Tavares took Toffolo’s spot. Gonzalo Montiel has been Nuno Espírito Santo’s preferred option at right-back in his six matches as manager.
Neco Williams did start in the replay, though, and Nuno may do the same again on Friday as Forest play Arsenal in a critical Premier League match on Tuesday, January 30.

Orel Mangala has started the last two matches in a double pivot with the ever reliable Ryan Yates.
The three midfielders ahead of Yates and Mangala have also been consistently selected in recent weeks. Nico Dominguez and Callum Hudson-Odoi have played either side of Danilo, who has adopted a more advanced role. Chris Wood continues to flourish up front under Nuno with six goals in six appearances under the Portuguese manager.
Nottingham Forest Recent Form and Tactics
As previously mentioned, Forest succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium on January 20. Before this, they were unbeaten in four in all competitions, including back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Manchester United in the Premier League.
Morgan Gibbs White’s return to the number 10 role has seen an upturn in creativity and goal threat for the East Midlands club. He picked up an abdominal injury in training before the FA Cup replay at Blackpool and may not be ready in time for the Bristol City match.
Nuno has mainly played a 4-2-3-1 shape since his appointment, which has seen Forest score 12 goals in his six games in charge. However, they are yet to keep a clean sheet under their new manager, conceding nine goals in six, which is something that he will be looking to rectify on Friday night.
Forest Injuries to Consider vs Bristol City
During the coach’s press conference on Wednesday, January 23, he confirmed that there are no new injury concerns. His team are currently without 12 first-team players, including the likes of Gibbs White (abdominal), Anthony Elanga (thigh) and Taiwo Awoniyi (groin).
Gibbs-White was ruled out for one to two weeks by Nuno on January 17, so Forest fans will be hoping that the “brilliant” playmaker can make a comeback on January 30 for the home match against Arsenal.
Ibrahim Sangare, Serge Aurier and Willy Boly will also be unavailable for selection as the Ivory Coast snuck through the Africa Cup of Nations group stage, and they will play Senegal in the Round of 16 on Monday, January 29.

Moussa Niakhate, who is also away at AFCON with Senegal, picked up an injury in their opening group stage match, however, the manager played down the severity of the injury in his press conference. He said: “The last information we had is that he is much better. It was his ankle, but nothing very serious. He still has some pain, but nothing to worry about for the future.”
