Chelsea have been surprisingly silent in the 2024 January transfer window thus far. However, they have been reported to have made a £73 million bid for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres and that has since been discussed by Fabrizio Romano.

Did Chelsea Really Make A Move For Gyokeres?
Romano has acknowledged that Record, one of the biggest papers in Portugal, claimed that the Blues had made a significant offer to sign the Swedish forward. However, he insists that the London heavyweights have never sent in a proposal to sign the forward and have never even contacted Sporting about signing him.

He adds that many clubs around Europe are currently scouting Gyokeres after his impressive performances in the Portuguese league, but that the plan is for him to stay for the entirety of this season at Sporting. The journalist further claims that the 27-year-old currently has a release clause of £85.8 million in his current deal and that he will not be sold for that value.
Romano also adds in his CaughtOffside blog: “I think this story may have come about because Chelsea have been to watch Gyokeres many times, but also his Sporting teammate, talented young centre-back Ousmane Diomande. I think that’s why we’re having these stories as both players are among the names on Chelsea’s scouting list, but it’s nothing concrete at the moment.”
Are Chelsea Looking Into Any January Move?
Chelsea have only indulged in outgoings rather than signing players in the winter transfer window, with Ian Maatsen being loaned out to Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season. They are also reportedly expected to sell defender Trevoh Chalobah before the window closes after the Englishman has failed to make any appearance under Mauricio Pochettino.
For now, it seems likely that the Premier League heavyweights are content with their current squad and more focused on trimming it rather than adding to it. They seem to be interested in signing Gyokeres, who was hailed as “unplayable” during his spell at Coventry City, in the summer after watching him score 20 goals and provide 10 assists in 24 appearances for Sporting so far in this campaign.
