Dragusin Choses Tottenham Hotspur Over Bayern Munich
After initially agreeing personal terms on January 3, a deal between Genoa and Spurs looked to be progressing well and was the only thing stopping the Romanian from signing for the North London outfit. However, it emerged over the weekend that German giants Bayern Munich were interested in the player as well but made no formal approach.
On Tuesday, January 9, Spurs looked to have finalised a deal with the Serie A team, who accepted a bid in the region of €25 million + €5 million in add-ons for the Romanian. With the clubs in agreement and Spurs and the player in agreement, it looked set in stone that Dragusin would be a Tottenham player. This was until Bayern Munich swooped in with a last-minute bid in an effort to hijack the deal!
Genoa accepted Bayern’s bid and it was then up to the player to decide who he would join. Both Bayern and Tottenham made improved proposals to Dragusin according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, over the course of the night, making the saga even more dramatic.

In the end, Dragusin decided to follow his “dream”to play in the Premier League and looks to be set to join Spurs after getting the sacred “Here We Go” from Romano. The Romanian’s agent confirmed the decision and reinforced his client’s commitment to Spurs when he said they “turned down Bayern“.
Romano has further clarified that Ange Postecoglou “will have the new centre-back he wanted” after confirming that all the documents have been signed.
Djed Spence to Join Genoa on Loan as Part of Dragusin Deal
As also covered by Romano, Djed Spence will join Genoa on an initial six-month loan for the remainder of the season, with Spurs covering his wages. Spence, who joined the Lilywhites in 2022, has only ever made six appearances for his parent club and this new loan deal is set to be his third away from North London, having just returned from an underwhelming stint with Leeds United in the Championship.

Genoa have the option to make his deal permanent for €10 million if they desire it at the end of the season.
Dragusin Incoming, Eric Dier Outgoing?
Having missed out on Dragusin, Bayern Munich turn their attention to Eric Dier once again. The Englishman is still just 29 and his versatility and experience is appreciated by Thomas Tuchel. If he does depart, he will bring a close to a decade-long career in North London, which saw him be a key member of the squad in one of Tottenham’s most successful recent eras.
