To lift themselves back into the European spots in the Premier League table, Manchester United will need to improve their goalscoring form. The Red Devils are already out of continental play thanks to their poor showing in the UEFA Champions League. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the English outfit are interested in Timo Werner among other potential options to strengthen their squad.

Bundesliga Trio on Manchester United’s Radar

The 30-year-old stated that it was “real and concrete the possibility of Manchester United going to sign a new striker in January.” New owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder and CEO of INEOS Group Limited, is overseeing his first transfer window at the club and a goalscorer appears to be at the top of the club’s wishlist. Romano noted that Timo Werner, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Donyell Malen were potential targets for the spot.

All three footballers are playing for clubs in the Bundesliga. Werner is back at RB Leipzig after a Premier League stint with Chelsea. Choupo-Moting has been with Bayern Munich since 2020. Finally, Malen, the youngest of the three, has established himself as a regular at Borussia Dortmund. Romano noted that United were “speaking to agents of players” in the striker position but there are no contacts with the respective clubs at the moment.

German Star to Make Premier League Comeback?

Werner himself was highlighted as someone who “is appreciated by people at Manchester United.” A poor two-year run with Chelsea does not detract from what the German has done with Leipzig. The 27-year-old, who has been described as an “exceptional goalscorer,” netted his 100th goal for the German club last season.

Romano reported that United “are still discussing with the agents, but still not something clear.” Ten Hag and his staff are running out of time to secure European football for the Red Devils next season. Ratcliffe has only one chance to make a good first impression and January could prove to be a critical transfer window for the Manchester outfit.
