Chelsea are set to attract the attention of the entire footballing fraternity after the start of the 2024 January transfer window, which enables them to make more signings. Amid this, there seems to be an important update on their current ambition to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Yearning For Victor Osimhen
The Telegraph’s Matt Law has reported that Mauricio Pochettino’s “top choice” for a new striker is the Nigerian striker, but there will be issues with signing him anytime soon. That is because the forward only recently signed a new contract with the Serie A heavyweights to showcase his loyalty to the side.

Law also adds that the Blues’ major target is unlikely to leave Italy before the 2024 summer transfer window and that Chelsea are unlikely to be given any opportunity to sign him in the middle of this campaign.
Moreover, it is also added by the journalist that Brentford’s highly sought-after forward Ivan Toney does not fit Chelsea’s philosophy and there is still no assurance whether they will make a move to sign him in January, with his suspension due to breaching betting rules now being over.
Are Chelsea Planning For Anything In January?
After a rather disappointing start to the 2023/24 season, Chelsea are still looking to find the best combination that can help them succeed under Pochettino. It has been reported that they are ready to listen to offers for the possible sale of midfielder Conor Gallagher in the winter window and that Tottenham Hotspur are negotiating to get a deal done too.

With that being said, Pochettino is aware that he needs a prolific striker to take his team to a whole new level in the attacking area. Even though signing Osimhen after he signed a new contract with Napoli can be an expensive affair, it might be worth the risk. The Nigerian forward was hailed as “remarkable” last year and has scored seven goals in 13 Serie A appearances in this campaign too.
He was a key part of the Naples-based team’s Scudetto-winning run last year and looks set for a move to a big-name side.
