Chelsea have leaked a lot of goals halfway into the 2023/24 Premier League season and there is a need to solidify their backline for the Blues to win more matches going forward. It looks like they might be looking to solve that by potentially signing the highly sought-after OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

Chelsea Face Stiff Competition For Todibo
Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna has reported that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have opened talks to sign the young French centre-back in the January transfer window. He also adds that Todibo is “high on the Blues list’ and that the London heavyweights are ready to fight against fellow Premier League sides for it. The journalist claims that Chelsea are not satisfied with their defenders and are ready to open their chequebook to sign another centre-back.

Aouna adds that Tottenham recently also made a very solid approach to sign the young centre-back and that the player himself is keen on Spurs’ project too. Moreover, it is further reported that the 23-year-old remains on Manchester United’s transfer wishlist as well.
The journalist further indicates that a move to Old Trafford is quite logical for Todibo. This is due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of OGC Nice, having acquired a 25% ownership stake at Manchester United and can perhaps influence the deal to sell to his own team rather than the London heavyweights.
Are Chelsea Looking Into Any Other Transfers?
The Blues are highly unlikely to go the entire January transfer window without making a single transfer. It has already been reported that they are likely to sign a new forward in the winter transfer window, even if that player agrees to only join the club after the end of the 2023/24 season.
After conceding 31 goals in 20 Premier League games already, Chelsea can’t be faulted for trying to sign a new centre-back. Todibo can be a solid addition to the team after impressing in Ligue 1 this season, having helped Nice keep up in the title race and keep nine clean sheets in only 14 appearances this season and has earned praise for his “crazy” tackling ability too.
