Wolverhampton currently find themselves in the middle of the Premier League table. Safely out of the relegation zone, Gary O’Neil’s club is also adrift from the European positions. John Percy reports that Wolves are looking to make moves in the January transfer window to try and regroup their squad into a more formidable opponent. Financial limitations, however, could limit their ambitions.

“Fringe players” are expected to be sold or loaned away to raise the funds necessary for bringing in the winger and striker O’Neil is targeting. Near the top of the list of desired purchases is Czech club Viktoria Plzen’s striker Rafiu Durosinmi. The 20-year-old Nigerian has netted nine times in only 19 matches across all competitions. O’Neil reports that the player has a £10 million valuation.

Competition for Signings

Bundesliga Frankfurt will rival Wolves for Durosinmi as they float around European qualification in their own league. Expected departures include the likes of Fabio Silva, Sasa Kalajdzic and Jonhy Otto. All three “have been short of game-time this season.” Financial restrictions due to their expected losses will certainly limit what O’Neil can expect to achieve in the January window.

With Sporting Director Matt Hobb leading the quest for new signings, they will focus on targeting “young and dynamic players” to bolster their squad rotation. In addition to the transfer news, Percy reported that Pedro Neto has returned to training after a hamstring injury sidelined the young Portuguese winger for seven fixtures.
