Potential Replacements for Thomas Partey
Mokbel believes that the Gunners are already preparing for a future without the Ghanaian midfielder. Despite his strong performances in the past, constant injury issues have plagued the former Atletico man of consistent minutes for Mikel Arteta’s side. The journalist therefore states that the North London side could make a midfield move next month.
Douglas Luiz has been a long-term target for Arteta but it remains to be seen how that saga develops over the next few weeks. In addition to that, Joao Palhinha who plays for local rivals Fulham has also been linked with a surprise move to the Emirates Stadium. The newest entry to this list of names is Amadou Onana from Everton.
Why Amadou Onana?
Mokbel states that the Senegalese player is “being watched closely” by the Gunners. The 22-year-old has had a fantastic season thus far with the Merseysiders and has caught the attention of clubs around Europe. He has been labeled a midfield “dynamo” thanks to his high work rate and energetic style of play.

The former Lille midfielder is capable of breaking up play and protecting the back line when needed. His tall frame also enables him to be a strong aerial threat on both ends of the pitch. So far, the midfielder has 99 duels won, six interceptions, and 14 clearances across 13 appearances in the domestic campaign so far.
His style of play would fit the current Arsenal setup, allowing the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard to operate freely in more advanced roles. He is undoubtedly one of the brightest spots in the Everton team fighting to stave off relegation and would be a fantastic addition to any team in the Premier League.
