Red Devils Scouting ‘Highly Rated’ Centre-Back
Romano has revealed that United will sign a high-quality defender in the future to bolster the heart of their defence. In the 2023 summer transfer window, the club was strongly linked with Benjamin Pavard but the deal did not come to fruition. Hence, the Premier League giants decided to bring Jonny Evans back as a stopgap replacement.
According to the Italian journalist, Antonio Silva is one of the top targets for the 20-time Premier League champions. The defender is very highly rated by United and he is currently being scouted. The Portuguese defender has been exceptional for Benfica ever since he made his debut for them as a teenager.
The youngster has been tipped by fans and pundits to be the “Next Ruben Dias” which further shows the youngster’s capabilities on the football pitch.

Who are the Other Targets for United?
Silva is not the only name on the Old Trafford-based outfit’s list as they prepare to shore up their defence. Jean-Claire Todibo of Nice and Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen are “still on the future list” of three-time Champions League winners. All three central defenders are physically strong, athletic and young which indicates that the Manchester-based club is planning to bring in a long-term solution.
Raphael Varane’s injury woes and Evans’ age makes United’s pursuit of a centre-back even more important. Romano wrote on his social media handle that “Antonio Silva remains on Man United list since September, as revealed. He’s being scouted — highly rated. Jean-Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba are both still on Manchester United’s future list. Top centre back will join in 2024, more likely to happen in summer than January.”
