It’s been a promising season so far for Oxford United but the U’s have picked up just one point from two league games this week.
Liam Manning’s side lost on the road at Wigan before needing a stoppage-time penalty to secure a point against Wycombe.
Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Two Games Without a Win
Defeat Against the Latics
For the first time in seven league games, Oxford United lost a game.
It was a frustrating evening as Wigan ran out 2-0 winners at the DW Stadium. The U’s were forced into shooting from range against a resilient defence, but a goal in each half sealed the win for the home side.
The result left Liam Manning’s side four points behind league leaders Portsmouth, who picked up a point at Cambridge.
McGuane on Oxford United Contract
Six Oxford players have signed new deals and Marcus McGuane is one of the U’s stars that fans want to see commit his future to the club.
Ciaron Brown, Simon Eastwood, Elliott Moore, Stephan Negru and Gatlin O’Donkor have all penned new long-term deals, while Alex Gorrin has also signed a contract until January.
Speaking to the Oxford Mail, McGuane said: “I love being here and I enjoy being here, and this is somewhere that I want to stay.
“My family are happy being here as well, so this is definitely somewhere that I want to stay and kick on, and get the club to where I think we should be.”
Draw Against the Chairboys
For the first time this season, the U’s then saw themselves on a winless run after a 2-2 draw at home against Wycombe.
Oxford took the lead through Ruben Rodrigues but a brace of penalties for the Chairboys gave the visitors the lead.
However, the U’s would then equalise with a stoppage-time penalty themselves with Cameron Brannagan converting from 12 yards.
Manning’s side are now six points behind Portsmouth with a game in hand but Bolton are level on points with the U’s, having played the same number of matches.
