Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho has found himself in hot water following a since-deleted tweet he made after the Red Devils beat Kobenhavn in Tuesday night’s Champions League group stage match. The post featured a picture of the squad’s number one goalkeeper, Andre Onana, and two gorilla emojis. Andre Onana Backs Garnacho Following Backlash Over Tweet
🔴🇦🇷 FA have been investigating into Garnacho’s social media post in which he used gorilla emojis over a picture of Andre Onana's penalty save.
🇨🇲 Onana replies: “People can’t choose what I should be offended by. Garnacho meant power and strenght. This should go no further”. pic.twitter.com/k6kea9Iwgz

Onana Explains Garnacho Tweet
Many fans and pundits on various social media outlets criticised the teenage winger for his post. The Football Association are investigating it, and Garnacho could face punishment despite taking it down after the backlash. One voice who has spoken out to defend the youngster is Onana himself.

A tough season filled with errors has led to no shortage of criticism for the United goalkeeper. Onana made a big save from a last-minute penalty kick that ensured United would take all three points from their Champions League fixture. According to the Cameroonian, Garnacho’s post “meant power and strength” and he believes the incident should be considered over.
Possible Ban?
The real decision-makers in the matter will be the FA. Dan Sheldon and Mark Critchley of The Athletic have reported that Garnacho was “at risk of a Football Association ban.”
United had a player receive punishment for a similar incident back in 2020. Edinson Cavani was banned for three fixtures and fined a total of £100,000 for a comment about a young supporter. The Uruguayan escaped further punishment by demonstrating “genuine remorse.” The fate of Garnacho has yet to be decided, leaving Erik ten Hag to wonder if he will be without another key player.
