Manchester United have struggled defensively at the start of their 2023/24 Premier League season and have already conceded 13 goals in nine appearances. This has seen them being linked to a future move for a new centre-back, including links to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Manchester United Scouting Marc Guehi
Have United Made an Official Move for Guehi?
Fabrizio Romano reiterates that “they want a top centre back” in 2024 and that they will have a lot of names linked with them as result. However, he states that United have not taken any concrete steps to sign the England international after watching him impress for club and country.
The journalist adds that the Premier League heavyweights are currently just scouting a number of defenders before 2024, when they are expected to sign a new centre-back. He adds that the Red Devils currently have quite a long list of targets including the likes of OGC Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayer Leverkusen man Edmond Tapsoba. However, as Romano hints, Guehi has an added advantage to attracting United’s interest because he is proven in the Premier League unlike some of their other foreign targets.
What Has Guehi Achieved at Crystal Palace?
The 23-year-old defender joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea back in 2021 and has become an important part of their team over the last few campaigns. He has played in nearly all of the Eagles’ matches this season, helping them keep four clean sheets in just eight Premier League appearances.

Guehi was one of his side’s best players in their narrow win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford last month and might have attracted the attention of Erik ten Hag as a result of that. For now, however, United have not yet made a final decision on which centre-back they want to sign in 2024 to bolster their backline. The defender, who has been hailed for his “excellent” positional sense by Gareth Southgate, is definitely a solid option that can also bring down the average age of their backline.
