How Newcastle Have Lined-up Recently
In Newcastle’s last few games, Nick Pope has remained in goal with Kieran Trippier, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, and Dan Burn in front of him. Whilst this is a strong backline, Lascelles being the first-choice back-up for an injured Sven Botman does highlight the severe lack of squad depth.

Newcastle’s dictator of play, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sean Longstaff have remained constant in midfield for the past few weeks, with various injuries keeping others out. Sandro Tonali and youngster Elliot Anderson have also rotated with each other to complete the midfield three. Eddie Howe seems just as willing to give a chance to the young Scotsman as he is the £60 million signing.
Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron have thrived on the wings and solidified their spots in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak has profited from a Callum Wilson injury, becoming the main man up top.

Newcastle Recent Form and Tactics
Newcastle have been on an excellent run of form recently, winning four out of their last five matches in all competitions. The Northern side have been impressive in attack.
Their impressive recent form has included huge wins in cup competitions, beating Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in the Champions League – and Manchester City 1-0 in the EFL Cup.

The incredible atmosphere at St. James’ Park – has to be considered when looking at the Magpies’ form. Those two big wins came at home, and the crowd were instrumental. In the last five games, the only points dropped came away from home, in a 2-2 draw at West Ham. Newcastle will be a tough place to visit for Premier League sides this season.
Eddie Howe has tactically stuck with the 4-3-3 formation all season, and Bruno Guimaraes has been at the heart of the midfield. He has implemented a style of attacking through the middle of the pitch, which is why his midfielders are so important.
Newcastle Injuries to Consider
Star centre-back Sven Botman still has the knee injury that has sidelined him for the past four games but “is improving” and could potentially feature. However, it may be too soon, and Lascelles should start once again.
In the midfield, Eddie Howe is “hopeful” that Joelinton, who he describes as a “huge player” will be back after missing the last two matches with a hamstring injury. Despite recent allegations of breaking gambling rules, Howe insists that Tonali is “available for selection”. It is likely too soon for fellow midfielder Joe Willock.

In more negative news, on the forward front, talisman Aleksander Isak “hasn’t trained”, but the team will make a late call. Summer signing Harvey Barnes also remains out with a long-term foot injury, leaving Newcastle relatively stretched on the wings. Fortunately, Anthony Gordon returns after serving his one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards.
However, these injuries should not limit Newcastle drastically; Crystal Palace have suffered injuries to many key players, such as Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, and Jefferson Lerma.
