How Leicester City Have Lined-up Recently

Manager Enzo Maresca made ten changes against Liverpool on Wednesday night in the third round of the Carobao Cup which resulted in a 3-1 defeat by the Premiership giants. The Italian made a statement of intent with the team selection with priority obviously being placed on league fixtures.

Maresca as anticipated, made wholesale changes against a second-string Liverpool team with first appearances of the season for Conor Coady and Harry Souttar. Patson Daka also made his first contribution on the pitch as a substitute for the Foxes. Many of the key players were rested or only played a bit part in the cup defeat.

A dilemma for the Italian manager is the void that has been left on the left side of defence due to injury. It is likely that James Justin may be asked to play out of his favoured role. An alternative might be to ask one of the central defenders to adapt and play in this position.

Leicester City Recent Form and Tactics

Having won seven of their first eight league games, the Midlands club currently sit top of the league on goal difference.  The top three clubs, which include newly promoted Ipswich Town and Preston North End have built a five-point cushion over fourth-placed Hull who have amassed fifteen points.

With a number of key players rested midweek, Maresca will once again shuffle his pack in order to keep the squad fresh and protect his players from an exhausting schedule. Conor Coady will be pushing for a start following his solid performance at Liverpool.

Blackburn Rovers are currently sitting in fourteenth place in the league having lost three of their last four league games. Having had a morale boosting 5-2 cup victory during the week, this may well instil much needed confidence within the squad.

Midfielder Dennis Praet is approximately six to eight weeks away from being considered for selection with a back injury.  Summer signing Tom Cannon also has a back injury with no idea of a timeframe for his return. There are no other injury concerns.
