Man Utd Predicted Lineup vs Burnley

Ten Hag’s Lineups Marred by Lack of Wide Options

After using a box midfield in a 3-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford last weekend, United’s boss knew he needed to use wide players against the threat of Bayern’s Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Alphonso Davies. As a result of this need and the absences of Jadon Sancho and Antony, Facundo Pellestri was the only change to the starting eleven from the match against the Seagulls, as he came in for Scott McTominay in an effort to offer some width to the side.

Deployed at right wing, the Uruguayan made an unconvincing first start of the season, after only recording nine appearances in all competitions across 22/23 for his club.

Andre Onana had a night to forget in goal for the Red Devils, behind Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, and Sergio Reguilon, who exceeded expectations and won many plaudits despite an otherwise difficult night for the Red Devils. Casemiro started ahead of them, with Eriksen and Fernandes in central midfield.

Marcus Rashford had an uncharacteristically poor game at left wing on Wednesday night and struggled to link up with Rasmus Hojlund, who bagged his first goal of the season against the Bundesliga champions.

Tactical Confusion Peaks Amid Poor Form

United fans may be forgiven for thinking that they were unlucky to lose to Bayern Munich. After a promising start, in which the Red’s had arguably created the best chances, Leroy Sane’s effort on goal was spilled in off the palms of Onana. To the Cameroonian’s credit, he immediately took responsibility for the loss as a whole and even requested to speak in post-match interviews.

Despite the admirable leadership show by the keeper, Ten Hag must find a solution to fix his leaky defence, which has now conceded 14 goals in six games this season. Despite some positive performances in the defeats to Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Brighton and now Bayern Munich, there is a clear lack of tactical cohesion in the squad.

United currently sit in 13th on six points in the Premier League, although fans will be hopeful that they can make improvements ahead of a kinder fixture list. Their next five league games see them face Burnley, Palace, Brentford, and Sheffield United before a Manchester derby at Old Trafford at the end of October.
