As Manchester United completed one deal on Thursday night, they also killed another. The Red Devils acquired Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham. That, according to Fabrizio Romano, is the conclusion of the pursuit made to sign Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.

Italian’s Post
Romano reported on the Reguilon loan on Thursday night and confirmed United had a “verbal agreement” with Tottenham. Medical tests were being booked as of the post being made. There is a clause in the deal that could see the 26-year-old return to Ange Postecoglou in January, but one thing is certain, the Cucurella deal is “OFF.”

Twenty-five-year-old Cucurella, also from Spain, had been rumoured to join United since the Luke Shaw injury that started the Red Devils’ need for a left-back. A deal, however, never materialised, and now the defender who has been described as “effective” and “without ego”, might have to prepare for another campaign with Chelsea.
United Find Their Man, but Cucurella Left to Suffer
Sergio Reguilon is an “incredible” player for Erik ten Hag to sign on such short notice. His time spent playing in La Liga and the Premier League has developed him into a capable footballer. The Spaniard also boasts the ability to score goals and once netted eight times during a loan away from Real Madrid. He will be happy to see the pitch with United, but a former national teammate misses out.

Cucurella, if he stays at Stamford Bridge, will not get as much playing time as he has had in recent seasons. Mauricio Pochettino does not appear to be utilising the former Brighton & Hove Albion player in his new plan for Chelsea. If the Spaniard wants his name on a starting lineup this campaign, he will have to look for another move.
