Leeds United are considering a move for Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas following an injury to Whites defender Sam Byram. According to Phil Hay at The Athletic, the Elland Road side has made two separate inquiries for the full-back, with the Foxes seemingly unwilling to make the move as they are major promotion rivals. Thomas has previously been described as “outstanding” by Brendan Rodgers.

Why are Leeds United Considering Luke Thomas?
There are two major reasons the Whites are considering a move for the youngster, the first being a relative lack of depth in the position. Junior Firpo is the only out-and-out left-back at the club, and playing the likes of Cody Drameh there has been massively unsuccessful. A dedicated player in that position would make a significant difference to the club’s hopes of success. That combines with the second reason, being a major injury crisis in the position, forcing immediate recruitment.
Leicester City’s Hesitation
It’s understandable that Leicester aren’t too certain on the move. Whilst they haven’t found any real use for the youngster yet this season, there is still a lot of time to go in the season, and Leeds United are one of their main rivals for an automatic promotion spot. With Daniel Farke’s largest weakness in the squad being at left-back, the Midlands club agreeing to help him fill it would be an odd move, to say the least.

What This Means for Cody Drameh
As Luke Thomas looks likely to come in, this could spell the end of Cody Drameh’s spell at Elland Road. The young wing-back hasn’t been able to have an impact under any of his previous managers at the club, and stumbling to a poor performance against Ipswich only seemed to seal his fate. With only twelve months left on his contract, it looks like time for Drameh to move on.
