Brighton & Hove Albion are continuing their pursuit of finding a replacement for Moises Caicedo, who was sold to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window for a British transfer record, and it appears they are close to signing Carlos Baleba.

How Much Will Brighton Pay For Baleba?

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the Seagulls have verbally agreed a deal with Ligue 1 side Lille for the transfer of their young midfielder Baleba.

The update mentions that Brighton have agreed to pay a total transfer fee of around £25.7 million (including add-ons) and that a sell-on clause has also been inserted into the deal, which means that Lille – will be owed a chunk of the fee if the Seagulls ever sell Baleba in the future.

Romano also states the 19-year-old midfielder has already agreed on personal terms and the details of his contract. Brighton are said to have booked the medical tests for him and will now push to get this deal over the line before the summer transfer window closes.

Baleba has caught the eye of Brighton with his performances over the last season, having impressed with Lille in the French league. The 19-year-old has been hailed as “Brilliant” for his performances. He is a hard-working, efficient defensive midfielder who excels in winning aerial duels, making vital blocks and impressing with his ball retention.

The teenager has made 23 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, providing two assists. It remains to be seen if the Seagulls can sign the Cameroonian midfielder anytime soon and bring him as Caicedo’s replacement.
