Sevilla and Fiorentina Want Brighton Midfielder Steven Alzate
European Sides Aim to Bolster Midfield With Alzate
Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath has shed light on the potential move identifying Sevilla and Fiorentina as the frontrunners to acquire the midfielder. Both clubs “made enquiries” to assess the feasibility of securing the 24-year-old as it appears his opportunities at the Amex Stadium could be limited in the forthcoming season under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Spanish outfit Sevilla, embarking on their return to the Champions League, are reportedly keen on exploring midfield options to bolster their squad. Fiorentina are also in Europe and looking to add numbers in midfield. The Italian side may be in more need should their Premier League-bound midfielder Sofyan Amrabat move away in this window.
Alzate Struggles for Game Time After Loan Spell Return
Alzate’s omission from the matchday squad in Brighton’s 4-1 victory over Wolves has cast a shadow over his prospects for regular first-team action this season. The midfielder may encounter heightened competition in the midfield ranks, as the club have brought in Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner during the summer. His journey took an intriguing turn last season when he was loaned to Standard Liege in Belgium. During this loan spell, he showcased his ability by making regular appearances, contributing two goals in 23 games in the Jupiler Pro League.

Having been at Brighton for six years, Alzate’s emergence into the first team under Graham Potter quickly garnered attention. His international recognition further solidified his standing in the football world with seven appearances for Colombia since 2019. However, since Roberto De Zerbi arrived, he has struggled for first-team opportunities, and now it looks increasingly likely he could depart the club this summer.
