‘Fantastic’ Spurs Star Could Be Sidelined After Shock New Injury Blow

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium- James Maddison Undergoes Injury Scan

Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison will be evaluated following a scan on a suspected foot injury picked up during Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Manchester United.

Huge Injury Blow For Spurs

James Maddison Set For Foot Scan

Ange Postecoglou’s side’s win over United was overshadowed by reports that Maddison, a summer signing from recently relegated Leicester City, left the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot, although the player told the media that it was just a precautionary measure.

The 26-year-old midfielder featured in the full 90 minutes so news of his injury will have come as a surprise to viewers. Spurs will now evaluate their star signing’s injury, after performing a scan on his foot. Results from the procedure are yet to have been revealed by the club.

The news will come as a huge blow for the North London side, as the playmaker notched two assists on his full debut for the club against Brentford and shined against the Red Devils in his first home game.

Spurs Injury Updates

Maddison will now be another key name on Spurs’ injury list, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon not due back until September.

Bentancur’s absence has been keenly felt. The Uruguayan midfielder was in superb form for Spurs during a disappointing season last year. His six goals were bettered only by forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min at the club, despite his season being cut short in February due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Can Spurs Replace Maddison?

The concern for Tottenham will be whether they have the squad depth to temporarily replace Maddison’s creativity. The England international has amassed eight key passes over the first two Premier League games, with only Phil Foden of Man City and Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton exceeding this number.

In the centre of the midfield, players like Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have featured but none offer the same level of playmaking ability that the England international does.

The attacking-midfielder has been exceptional in his first two games for Spurs and was described by his former manager Brendan Rogers as a “fantastic talent” and “one of the best in the Premier League”.

With a Saturday lunchtime trip to Bournemouth looming on the horizon, Spurs fans will be desperately hoping that their new number ten is fit enough to start, although it certainly looks doubtful at this stage.
