Tottenham Hotspur Could Lose Veteran Player to Serie A

As originally reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio are targeting longtime Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Hugo Lloris. After quotes were released from Ange Postecoglou stating that he has a bloated squad, this could signal the end of the footballer’s long Premier League career.

Hugo Lloris: Likely Out the Door

With the purchase of Guglielmo Vicario, the Frenchman’s spot in the starting eleven has been replaced. As a result, it makes sense for the Australian to let the goalkeeper leave.

Although he never won a trophy outside of pre-season in his 11-year stint in North London, fans will surely miss his reliability in front of the net.

New Leaders Will Have to Emerge

If the transfer is completed and Lloris makes a move to the Serie A, it will represent a major change in terms of leadership amongst the players.

If Spurs are to have any chance of improving on last season’s 8th-place finish, newly appointed captain Son Heung-min and vice captains James Maddison and Christian Romero will need to quickly become effective role models to the rest of their teammates.

Keys To Replacing Lloris

Having only played one game of top-flight football, it’s undoubtedly too early to determine whether Vicario will be a good successor or not. However, the signings of Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie look to be serious upgrades defensively after they both had promising debuts against Brentford.

Although fans would have to watch yet another veteran leave this transfer window, the financial benefits that will be gained from it will help contribute to more signings that can improve the club in the future.
