According to Fabrizio Romano, Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined Real Madrid on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The transfer journalist has noted that the 28-year-old goalkeeper will join Los Blancos with a “no option to buy clause”.

Kepa Arrizabalaga Gets a Second Chance
The stars aligned for both parties as Thibaut Courtois suffered an unfortunate ACL injury ruling him out for most of the upcoming campaign. With Robert Sanchez joining Chelsea, it seemed like Kepa’s time at Stamford Bridge was all but done.

The £72 million man became used to playing second fiddle as he was replaced by Edouard Mendy for a period of time in West London. It seemed as though he was set to drop back down the pecking order as Sanchez started Chelsea’s opening game of the season when they hosted Liverpool.
There are no doubts he will be the European giant’s number one now in the absence of the veteran Belgian.

A Much Needed Reset?
Since arriving for a record-breaking fee from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, the Spaniard has made 109 league appearances keeping 35 clean sheets. On the surface the stats seem fantastic however things were never plain sailing for him.
FA Cup controversy and suspect goalkeeping kept the 28-year-old in the limelight through his time in England and maybe a stint away in Spain will help his confidence and ability.

As the shot-stopper returns to La Liga once again, he would be hoping that his performances improve, so that he can continue being the main man in the future as well.
