Chelsea Set to Finalize Romeo Lavia Transfer Despite Liverpool Fee Agreement
Watch: Liverpool and Chelsea are destroying the transfer market
Lavia ‘Chooses’ Chelsea Over Liverpool
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has claimed that Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia has made the decision to join the London giants the Saint’s director of football admitting that that Liverpool had agreed a £60 million deal with the club for his signing. It appears Mauricio Pochettino’s side swooped in swiftly and stole him away from their Premier League rivals’ grasp, as they did with Caicedo.

The relations between the Blues and Southampton are strong, with no issues being anticipated over a deal. Ornstein claims that Chelsea are expected to pay a fee of £50 million plus add-ons to finalize the agreement for the Belgian youngster’s signing.
Meanwhile, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has confirmed his “final announcement” that Pochettino’s side have won the battle over the Reds and also claimed that the London side offered him higher wages and a longer contract, which tempted him to join them over Liverpool. It is also reported that he is already looking for an apartment in the English capital with his entourage after deciding to move to Stamford Bridge.
Fabrizio Romano has noted that Lavia has made this decision as he believes it to be the necessary next step in his career. He further claims that Chelsea walked away from the possibility of signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams because they wanted to invest in the Ecuador and Belgium midfielders.
What Are Liverpool Losing?
The London heavyweights appear to have ruined Liverpool’s transfer plans to reshuffle their midfield line and instead significantly strengthen Pochettino’s squad for the long term. While neither deal is confirmed yet, it looks like the Blues will be signing two of the Premier League’s most promising young midfielders from the previous campaign.
In Lavia, they will be getting an energetic, robust defensive midfielder who has been termed as a “Beast in the making”. The 19-year-old, a graduate of the Manchester City youth academy, produced a string of impressive performances in the Premier League last season and his only goal came in Southampton’s win over Chelsea.
