Newcastle United are in the market to sign a new left-back before the end of the summer transfer window, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has confirmed. This comes after they had a flying start to the Premier League season with a whopping 5-1 win over Aston Villa.

Newcastle United Plot Kieran Tierney Move
Watch: Premier League season predictions
What Terms Are Newcastle Ready to Offer for New Left-Back Signing?
It appears that the Magpies are looking to sign more competition for Dan Burn and Matt Targett in the left-back role. Edwards claims that they are only looking to sign a new full-back on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season, and that Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney is on their wishlist.

They also have Chelsea man Marc Cucurella on their radar. Eddie Howe’s side believe that both targets would be interested in a move to St. James Park and that the personal terms agreement should not be a problem. Edwards also states that Newcastle would be willing to add an obligation or option to buy whichever player they sign on loan and that there is confidence within the camp that at least one of them will be acquired.
It is claimed that Arsenal are looking to sell Tierney permanently to generate some revenue, but that a compromise could be reached for them to potentially send him out on loan and get a fee 12 months later.
What Else Could Newcastle Pop up With?
Newcastle have been very efficient with their summer signings so far, bringing in quality players like Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali to improve their squad ahead of their return to the UEFA Champions League. Edwards reports that alongside a new left-back, the Magpies ideally want to sign a new right-sided centre-back before the summer window closes.

However, it is mentioned that there are not many options to their liking available and that they will not sign anyone for the sake of it. Tierney, who was hailed as an “amazing” player last year, has lost his regular role at the club since Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival in 2022. But he comes with decent experience, having made 97 appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal and has a reputation for being a rugged, hard-working full-back who is defensively very solid.
