Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an important update to Manchester United’s reported agreement to sell Harry Maguire to West Ham United.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the transfer specialist revealed that there is no agreement between the England international and the East London club yet, but all parties in the negotiations anticipate that the deal will be completed.

Former Manchester United Captain Expected to Leave
According to reports, the Red Devils have accepted a £30 million bid for their former captain to leave the club and join former manager David Moyes at West Ham. Romano told his viewers last night “From what I’m told, the agreement between Maguire and West Ham on personal terms is not done yet, but it is not going to be a problem”.

The 30-year old centre back has been pushed out of Erik ten Hag’s starting eleven, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof all preferred over the former Leicester star.
The Athletic has reported that Maguire intended to stay and fight for his place at the club before England Manager Gareth Southgate hinted to him that a lack of playing time could adversely affect his England career.
Manchester United Could Try To Replace Maguire Before Confirming a Sale
Romano also stated in his video that some sources have informed him that Manchester United would like to identify a replacement before sanctioning a sale to West Ham. The club are understood to be monitoring Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, as well as Jean-Clair Tobido, who plays for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. Edmond Tapsoba has also been mentioned as a potential target.

Wages Complicate West Ham Deal for Maguire
One aspect of the deal which has complicated negotiations for the player is his wages, which are understood to be £190,000 a week. Moyes’ side hopes to be able to negotiate a reduction in salary to £100,000 a week, with Maguire’s soon-to-be former club expected to make a payment to cover some of the lost salary for the player.
West Ham previously attempted to negotiate a deal to bring Scott McTominay to the London Stadium, however, their £30 million bid for the Scottish International was rejected.
With Maguire set to leave Old Trafford this summer fans will be eager to see how he fits into West Ham’s rebuild, following the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this summer. Despite winning the Europa Conference League last year, it remains to be seen whether the London club will be able to build on their success, or whether they will need significant time to find a new identity without the English midfielder.
