With just over three weeks until transfer deadline day, Leicester City continue to search for recruits to help in what they hope to be an instant return to the Premier League after a disastrous season. With a number of star midfielders leaving for top-flight clubs over the summer, Foxes manager Enzo Maresca seems to have been successful in adding at least one midfield starlet.

Who is Cesare Casadei?
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the imminent signing of Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei stating that the “deal [is] in place”. The youngster has raised plenty of eyebrows over the past few months. The well-rounded and modern 20-year-old midfielder represented Italy at the FIFA U20 World Cup in May. He helped the national team to the final where they lost to Uruguay. He received two prestigious awards, securing both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball awards scoring seven goals in seven games.
Casadei started his footballing career in Cervia in the fifth tier of Italian football before joining Cesana. When the club was facing bankruptcy in 2018, he secured a move to Italian giants Inter Milan. Here, he came through the youth ranks and also experienced national success with the Italian Under-17 squad. His enormous talent was recognised and he was representing the Under-19 Italian team whilst still being only 17.
Chelsea secured his services when he signed a six-year contract and joined up with their Under-21 squad in August 2022. In January 2023, the Blues sent him on loan to Championship side Reading where he made fifteen appearances.
What to Expect from Casadei?
The midfielder is seen as being able to play in either a holding midfield role or as an attacking midfielder. With recent signing Harry Winks brought into the squad as their ideal holding midfielder, Maresca may have aspirations of Casadei playing a more attacking role. His energy and authority in the middle of the park will add another bow to the Championship team’s arsenal.
He is considered an intelligent player who reads the game well and has a knack for getting into scoring positions. There has been a concern at the club during preseason about the lack of chances created and goals scored. The Italian has the potential to fill this void.
This style of play has seen the 20-year-old earn comparisons to England legend Frank Lampard due to his knack for scoring goals from deeper areas.

The current betting favourites to win the Championship have convinced Casadei and Chelsea of the benefits of him being based at the King Power stadium over sending him elsewhere. We will soon find out if the new recruit can help Leicester further strengthen their promotion push.
