Kylian Mbappe is likely to join Real Madrid “soon”, transfer expert Damian Szurgot has predicted in an exclusive conversation with Last Word on Football. Szurgot runs the 321 Transfer online platform, which allows clubs to buy or sell players without unnecessary fees and commissions with the goal of directly linking the clubs themselves.
Kylian Mbappe to Join Real Madrid ‘Soon’
Expert Discusses Kylian Mbappe Transfer Saga with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United in the Discussion
Despite Sky Sports’ reports of interest from Saudi Arabia and European clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United, Szurgot believes that the French international will join the La Liga side and confirm the suspicions of bosses at his current club, Paris Saint Germain.
Szurgot told our team that Mbappe wants to “make his mark” on football history and that the player knows he cannot leave a legacy to match icons like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo whilst playing in Ligue 1. The Champions League is likely to be the goal, and PSG have proven themselves to struggle time and time again in their attempts to secure the elusive trophy.
Real Madrid would be a perfect move for the player to increase his collection of silverware. The Spanish club has won five champions leagues since 2010-11, including a run where they won the competition three years in a row under Zinedine Zidane between 2015 and 2018.
Last month Mbappe rejected a move to Saudi club Al Hilal, following a record-breaking £258 million bid. PSG accepted the bid, as they suspect Mbappe has privately agreed to join Real Madrid next summer, and the Ligue 1 side are desperate to get a fee for the 24-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract. If the contract runs down, the French club could lose the player for free next summer, in addition to paying off any loyalty bonuses that remain on the forward’s contract.

Kylian Mbappe ‘Perfect Example’ of Player Power in Transfer Market
As part of a wider conversation with LWOF’s Joe Blackburn, Szurgot claimed that Mbappe is in control of his future and is a prime example of the power that players now wield in the transfer market, due to a combination of his youth, his ability, and his stature in the game.
Whilst sympathising with the desire for players to control their own future, Szurgot labelled the wider situation as “unhealthy”, and claimed that there is a constant “tug-of-war” for power between the players’ camps and the clubs. Leeds United were judged to be another example of this issue rearing its head, with players working to leave the club as quickly as possible due to a range of clauses.
Szurgot argues that clubs should have more control over the transfer sagas they face, as they create the most value by connecting players, fans and commercial partners. As the “monetary brokers”, their role in the game is far more vast than any other individual party looking to benefit from the situation.
