Long Term Deal on the Horizon

Brighton’s interest in Colwill

Colwill spent the entire last season with the Seagulls, making 17 appearances for the club. His impressive performances caught the attention of the manager, Roberto de Zerbi, leading to the attempt to reacquire his services for the upcoming campaign at the Amex stadium.

The player had two years remaining on his contract, but his parent club were eager to keep him on hand. They further demonstrated their commitment to the Englishman by extending his contract until 2029, according to Nizaar Kinsella. It appears that the 20-year-old has a spot in the long-term plans of the team.

Colwill’s performance in the pre-season games was one of the major factors that led to the deal, as he successfully convinced Pochettino to include him in the senior squad. Similarly, the only factor that influenced Colwill’s decision to stay back was the confirmation of getting enough minutes under Pochettino. The injury to Wesley Fofana can’t have hurt his chances either.

Pochettino had also stated that Colwill could become ‘one of the greatest centre-backs in England’ after being impressed with the defender during the 4-3 win against Brighton in the PL Summer Series.

Disasi Competition

There were concerns about whether the signing of Axel Disasi would impact Colwill’s place in the team. However, it has now been confirmed that Disasi will fill in for Fofana, who is facing a long-term injury, and play as the right centre-back. Meanwhile, Colwill will be competing with the other former AS Monaco player, Badiashile, and Thiago Silva for the left centre-back position.
