Chelsea Receive Moises Caicedo ‘Replacement’ Update

What Did Roberto de Zerbi Say About Caicedo’s Future?

Chelsea are pushing really hard to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder and reportedly had a bid of £80 million immediately rejected by the Seagulls very recently. This comes amid further rumours that they are expecting to receive at least £100 million to let him leave.

As uncertainty grows on Caicedo’s future at Brighton, Roberto de Zerbi gave the latest update on the situation and his club’s stance if they sell him. He said: “He is young, it is difficult to live inside the possibility to change things, changing teams, changing a city, changing everything. But he’s a serious guy, a serious player and he’s working well in a good way.

“We are waiting for the situation to change. If you asked me what I would like, I would like him to stay with us but it is not my work, my work is to tell my owner that if Caicedo leaves that we need another big important midfielder.” The Italian gaffer also confirmed that he has some targets in mind as a possible replacement if the Ecuadorian star leaves but refused to be drawn into revealing who.

What Is Next for Chelsea?

It’s quite clear by now that the Blues will not be able to secure a reduced deal for the Brighton midfielder, who has been dubbed “special” after helping his side to a top-7 finish in the Premier League last season. Caicedo has even voiced his gratitude at being linked to a move to Chelsea and has reportedly agreed personal terms with them over a move too.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side could need to pay the full £100 million to sign him amid the Seagull’s stubbornness. Caicedo could be an ideal partner for Enzo Fernandez at Stamford Bridge, as he’s known for his energetic style and ability to win back the ball in midfield. The 21-year-old made 43 appearances for Brighton last season, and it remains to be seen if he starts the 2023/24 Premier League campaign with Brighton or Chelsea.
