Chelsea, Stamford Bridge General View - Axel Disasi

Chelsea had direct contact with the representatives of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi over a possible transfer a few weeks ago, claims Fabrizio Romano. The Blues recently lost centre-back Wesley Fofana for a prolonged period of injury and are reportedly looking for replacements.

Chelsea Hold Contacts With Marc Guehi Over Potential Transfer

What Is Chelsea’s Current Stance on Guehi Signing?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has been left a bit short of options in the centre-back area after the injury of the French defender, with the departures of Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta leaving them further short-handed.

Romano has given a definitive update on the entire situation revolving around the Palace centre-back and Chelsea’s stance on signing him. He wrote for his CaughtOffside column: “Marc Guehi – There’s a lot of interest in the Crystal Palace defender, but it’s still too early to say where he will go. Palace players are always linked with moves away but it’s important to underline that Palace have to be respected and they want important money or they keep their stars. Chelsea had some contacts on the player side 15 days ago, but again, no concrete negotiations or anything advanced.”

So it’s been confirmed that the London giants held talks with their ex-academy star over a return, but are yet to make an offer for him. Guehi is reported to be valued at a whopping £50 million by the Eagles, who signed him in 2021.

Who Else Is on Chelsea’s Transfer Agenda?

Chelsea have mostly focused on clearing their squad in the summer window, offloading over ten first-team stars, including Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and N’Golo Kante. They’ve made a few signings in improving their frontline with the additions of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.

The Blues are reportedly locked in negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion over the signing of Moises Caicedo, who has already spoken positively about being linked with a move to Chelsea. They are considering that deal to be a priority right now, which might be why they have not stepped up on their interest in Guehi. The 23-year-old centre-back, who was praised for his “fantastic” work at Selhurst Park last year, made 37 Premier League appearances last campaign and helped his side keep eight clean sheets.
