Chelsea have contacted Ajax over the possibility of signing midfielder Mohammed Kudus, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein. The Blues are looking for a new midfielder after losing the likes of Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic this summer.

Amid this, Ornstein states that the Blues have now expressed an interest in signing the 22-year-old Ghana international in the summer. The report details that they have not yet made any official offer to Ajax, but internal dialogue between the clubs have taken place.

Ornstein also adds that Chelsea are close to agreeing personal terms with Kudus, who is one of a number of options being considered by the club to improve their midfield line. The midfielder’s contract with the Eredivisie side runs until 2025, and according to Ornstein, he has recently rejected an extension offer.

Chelsea continues to be strongly linked to a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and even reportedly had a £70 million offer for him rejected. The Blues are tracking multiple midfield targets, and it appears that they are now making moves to sign Kudus, who is said to be valued at £48 million.

They could be getting a versatile player in the Ajax man, who scored against Liverpool at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League last season and twice for Ghana at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The 22-year-old, hailed as “exceptional,” was one of Ajax’s best players last season. He scored 18 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, playing as an attacking midfielder, a centre-forward and a winger at times.
