Chelsea have joined the race to sign young Japan forward Keisuke Goto from Jubilo Itawa, claims the Daily Mail’s David Kent. The 18-year-old is being considered to further improve the Blues’ long-term options and as one for the future.

Why Chelsea Are Interested in Goto

The London giants have developed an ambitious long-term plan under co-owner Todd Boehly and signed some promising young talents in 2023, including Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel from Santos in the summer window.

Kent claims that Goto’s impressive work has attracted interest from West Ham United and multiple European sides like Ajax and Sevilla. Chelsea have entered the race to sign him because they feel that he has all the attributes to succeed in England or be able to play for their proposed partner club, like French side Strasbourg, it’s also added.

Moreover, Kent states that the Blues’ scouts have identified the Japanese teenager as a definitive star for the future after the way he started to impress in his country. It’s also added that the 18-year-old striker is regarded as the “best teenage talent” in Japan and is being considered for bigger things going forward.

Who is Keisuke Goto?

Goto has been impressing in the J2 League, the second division in Japan, and has scored five goals in 20 league appearances for Itawa. He’s averaging a goal every 151 minutes for his side and only missed the recently-concluded FIFA U20 World Cup due to an injury.

The 6’3” teenager is claimed to have a similar playing style as England national team captain Harry Kane, as per the Daily Mail’s correspondent. Goto likes to drop deep into midfield and help build up the play with his teammates before making use of his pace to get into key goal-scoring positions in the final third.

His overall performances and attributes have convinced Chelsea’s scouts that it’ll be worth the gamble to sign the 18-year-old striker and hone his skills before elevating him to the senior team level. It remains to be seen if Mauricio Pochettino’s is going to complete this transfer and add another highly-rated youngster to their squad.
