Fabrizio Romano Report Indicates Chelsea Could Lose Out in Liverpool Double Swoop

Liverpool's Anfield- Ryan Gravenberch set to join

Liverpool may have already acquired the midfield duo of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Reds want “to sign a new centre-back and one more midfielder” ahead of the new campaign.

Romano Confirms Liverpool Are Still in the Market for a Defender and Midfielder

Could Colwill Switch Stamford Bridge for Anfield?

Levi Colwill’s performances at the heart of England’s U21 defence this summer meant the Three Lions claimed their first European Championship since 1984-  without conceding a goal – and now the Chelsea man is attracting attention from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Speaking to the Born and Red Youtube channel, Romano revealed:“ The interest is 100% confirmed and genuine and it is a really strong interest.

“The interest in Levi Colwill is very strong but at the moment, honestly it is really complicated.”

The Blues are set to dig their heels over any transfer for the defender as they see him as a ‘crucial player’ moving forward with Mauricio Pochettino set to hold talks with the Englishman over his future at the West London club.

Romano said there are other transfer options for Liverpool in defence in Micky van de Ven or Gonzalo Inacio, two players the club has also been monitoring, but it appears that Colwill is their top target at this moment in time.

Midfield Target

The additions of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai may have bolstered the Reds attacking midfield, but Klopp is still very keen to bring in a defensive midfielder, as the German freshens up his midfield this summer.

Romeo Lavia appears to be top of that list as things stand, with Romano confirming the club see him as a ‘special’ player, but that the Southampton man is not the only midfielder they have their eye on.  This could be a further blow to Chelsea who were previously linked with the player.

Romano believes Liverpool are willing to wait to see how the market develops, however, and are holding internal discussions over their next move for a midfielder.

Aurelien Tchouameni has long been admired by Klopp and whilst Romano says that any deal for the Frenchman is “very complicated”, you can “never say never” over the Real Madrid midfielder swapping the Bernabeu for Anfield.

There has also been interest in Kephram Thuram, but the Italian journalist believes this deal is too expensive for the Reds at this time and despite being keen on the Frenchman Lavia represents better value for money.

Whoever Liverpool do land, it is clear that the powers that be at Anfield are serious on spending money this summer and willing to back Klopp in the transfer market as he looks to bolster his squad after an underwhelming season last year.
