Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The deal to sign Tonali has been completed according to Romano, and will be announced once all formal details have been completed. The updates mention that all documents are in place, with the deal done and sealed – and the sale of Tonali will be a record sale for an Italian player at £60 million.

According to a recent report in The Athletic, Eddie Howe will be landing his top target to bolster the Magpie’s midfield. The report from the Athletic goes into more detail on how the deal progressed once Newcastle launched a bid of around £42 million on Tuesday, with the transfer moving forward following face-face-face negotiations on June 21. These negotiations seem to have resulted in a fee of £60 million being agreed. Romano went into specifics of the deal mentioning that Tonali’s contract will run until 2029 for £6 million per year and 2 million in add-ons.

Tonali has previously been described as “extraordinary” and will bring many qualities to the Newcastle midfield. The Italian is primarily a defensive midfielder who can impact the game higher up the pitch.

He is accurate with his passing in vital areas, which will be a welcome boost for the Magpies as they return to Champions League football. He times his tackles well, and his reading of the game is one of his best assets. Tonali is adept at set pieces, which will be a useful weapon for Eddie Howe next season.
