Fabrizio Romano has reported that personal terms are “almost agreed” between Arsenal and Declan Rice. In the same report, Romano noted that the midfielder is on Manchester City’s radar too, with the Cityzens waiting to see what Ilkay Gundogan does.
Arsenal and Manchester City Race for Declan Rice
What Other Players are Available?
There are a lot of clubs in the market for a good-quality defensive midfielder over the summer, with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia building on strong seasons and potentially securing moves in this window. Whilst these are strong midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City are likely looking for something better. The two are fighting for trophies, and Declan Rice’s experience with England and West Ham proves that he has the quality necessary to make a difference.
How is the Arsenal Declan Rice Chase Going?
The Gunners’ interest in Declan Rice appears relatively obvious, with the club having already made an offer of £80 million for the midfielder. He clearly has a high ceiling, which could lead to something of a bidding war between the North London side and the sky blues. Mikel Arteta could do with some more depth in the centre of midfield, having lost Granit Xhaka already from a squad that looked fairly thin in the title race.

Is a Manchester City Declan Rice Move Likely?
A move from Pep Guardiola’s side for Declan Rice doesn’t look necessarily likely this summer. The European champions rarely put out fees of that size, securing deals primarily in the £40-60 million bracket rather than extending to nine figures. However, if the club is to lose Ilkay Gundogan in the summer on a free, another quality midfielder will be a must. Rice has the proven ability necessarily, and there is no doubt that the leadership at the Etihad has the funding required to complete a deal.
